Gangdong-gu Increases Second Childbirth Congratulatory Money by 100,000 Won to 400,000 Won

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is expanding its childbirth and parenting support policies to create a childbirth-friendly environment.

Starting this year, the childbirth celebration allowance for the second child born will be increased by 100,000 KRW to 400,000 KRW. The existing childbirth celebration allowances of 200,000 KRW for the first child, 500,000 KRW for the third child, and 1,000,000 KRW for the fourth child or more will continue to be provided.

Additionally, Seoul’s first-ever “Temporary Child Support Payment Project” will be implemented to provide temporary child support to child support creditors who are having difficulties raising minor children due to unpaid child support.

Eligible recipients will receive 200,000 KRW per minor child per month for up to 9 months.

Furthermore, to ease the parenting burden on large families, all multi-child households can apply starting next month. For families with three children, a special childbirth incentive of 100,000 KRW per household per month will be provided until the youngest child turns 5 years old, and for families with four or more children, 200,000 KRW per household per month will be provided. When the fourth or later child enters elementary, middle, or high school, a 500,000 KRW enrollment congratulatory allowance will be given.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “This year marks the point when the natural decrease of the population begins in earnest, making childbirth more important than ever. We will discover and promote various policies related to housing, jobs, family, and care to respond to low birth rates.”
