[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] RF Semi, a semiconductor and LED lighting specialist company, announced on the 12th that it will install and pilot operate 'smart streetlights' in Gyodong, Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do.
RF Semi has developed smart streetlights capable of ▲individual remote control ▲remote diagnosis of equipment malfunctions ▲real-time monitoring of energy consumption ▲automatic scheduling of sunrise and sunset based on installed location, and installed them in Gyodong, Yeoju-si last September for pilot operation.
The smart streetlight operation project in Gyodong, Yeoju-si was carried out following the signing of a 'Smart Lighting Development Agreement to Minimize Light Pollution' between RF Semi and Yeoju Urban Management Corporation (Chairman Yeo Se-hyun) in May this year.
RF Semi's semiconductor-driven (AC direct connection type) smart streetlights feature individual control of all lights through real-time monitoring. After about three months of pilot operation, it showed a 30% energy saving effect compared to existing streetlights, and the pilot operation will be completed by next month with installation scheduled to start in March.
RF Semi plans to expand and apply smart streetlight technology to alleyways and front-of-house security lights in cooperation with Yeoju Urban Management Corporation to resolve issues where bright security lights during late-night hours cause damage to crop growth or disturb residents' sleep.
Jinhyo Lee, CEO of RF Semi, stated, "Globally, as the trend shifts toward an eco-friendly, low-carbon economy, many local governments are showing interest in smart streetlight projects as a way to save energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions."
Meanwhile, RF Semi is developing a 'pest prevention lamp' that maintains a color temperature of 5700k while reducing the 450nm wavelength band to address the problem of existing competitor 'low-insect lamps' used to reduce insect damage around security lights in summer, which have a red color that is too bright and causes eye fatigue.
