10 out of 9 Plan to Stay Home During Lunar New Year Holiday... 33% Also Buy Gifts via Mobile

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] TMON (CEO Lee Jin-won) announced on the 12th that a survey conducted among customers ahead of the Lunar New Year revealed that due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), ▲staying at home ▲mobile shopping ▲contactless interactions emerged as major trends.

In a survey conducted over four days starting from the 8th, targeting 1,043 TMON customers about their plans for the Lunar New Year holiday, 65% responded that they would "rest at home with family," which was the highest response. Additionally, 20% of respondents said they would "enjoy content such as videos and games," meaning that effectively 9 out of 10 chose to "stay at home."

The trend of "contactless through mobile shopping" was strongly evident in Lunar New Year gift-giving as well. 33% of respondents said they would "purchase and send gifts via mobile platforms like TMON," and 32% said they would "send money with heartfelt intentions." These figures represent an 8 percentage point increase compared to a survey conducted last Chuseok. On the other hand, only 12% said they would "meet in person to deliver gifts," and 22% responded that they had no gift plans.

For this Lunar New Year, 41% of respondents said they would "spend time with immediate family," which was the highest. However, 37% said they would "avoid all meetings," more than double the 18% recorded last Chuseok, reflecting heightened caution. When asked about the timing of returning to their hometowns, 40% said they "have no plans for the time being," the largest group.

TMON is holding a special event called "2021 Lunar New Year Celebration" until the 8th of next month, offering exclusive discount coupons of up to 7%. Customers can conveniently browse by price ranges such as under 10,000 won or under 30,000 won, as well as by categories like fresh food and senior care electronics. Furthermore, most products in the Lunar New Year event support the "Gift Sending" feature, allowing customers to send gifts by simply entering the recipient's phone number even if they do not know the address, with up to a 10% "Gift Sending Exclusive Discount Coupon" applicable.

Lee Jin-won, CEO of TMON, said, "Compared to previous holidays, the COVID-19 situation has become more severe, and contactless trends in hometown visits and gift preparations appear to be strong. We will expand special-priced products and strengthen the gift sending function to help customers prepare for a safe and healthy holiday."
