[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Uniquest is showing strong performance. This is interpreted as the autonomous driving technology of its subsidiary AI Matics, established by former Hyundai Motor in-house venture members, being highlighted.
As of 1:32 PM on the 8th, Uniquest was trading at 14,350 KRW, up 3.61% (500 KRW) compared to the previous trading day.
AI Matics was founded in 2003 by Hyundai Motor researchers as an in-house venture. Since 2006, it has supplied ADAS components such as LDW (Lane Departure Warning), FCW (Forward Collision Warning), and AASV (All-Around Sight View). According to a report published by KTB Securities in November last year, the major shareholder of AI Matics is Uniquest with 55.2%, making it the largest shareholder. Following that, three executives hold 20.2%, and Hyundai Kia Motors also holds a 5.4% stake.
Kim Young-jun, a researcher at KTB Securities, stated in the report at the time, "Over time, the ADAS component sector began to lose ground to overseas competitors and started seeking new business directions. After joining the Uniquest group in 2016 and changing its name to A.I.Matics in December 2019, it began entering the vehicle management platform business (FMS) based on its existing autonomous driving-related technology, and the results are expected from 2021."
It is especially understood that AI Matics has secured a high level of autonomous driving technology. Kim Jong-min, a researcher at Samsung Securities, said in a report yesterday, "In May 2020, AI Matics successfully completed level 4 urban autonomous driving test drives in development with the global automotive parts company NGK. It is significant that they achieved level 4 autonomy using only camera sensors through AI image recognition technology without expensive 4-channel or more Lidar equipment."
