KOSPI Maintains 3100 Level in Afternoon... KOSDAQ Slightly Lower [Image source=Yonhap News]

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] The KOSPI, which rose relentlessly in the morning session and surpassed the 3100 mark, continues to maintain above 3100 in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the KOSDAQ index, which attempted to challenge the 1000 mark, is showing a slight decline and appears to be stalling.


On the 8th, the KOSPI opened at 3040.11, up 8.43 points (0.28%) from the previous trading day, and is gaining momentum. Around 11 a.m., the KOSPI surpassed 3100 for the first time in history, and in the afternoon, it slightly extended its gains to reach the 3110 level. As of 1:20 p.m., it is recording 3121.79, up 90.11 points (2.97%) from the previous trading day.


Looking at trading trends by investor type, foreign investors are leading the index rise with net purchases of 754.1 billion KRW, while institutional and individual investors are realizing profits with net sales of 611.8 billion KRW and 172.9 billion KRW, respectively.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Hyundai Mobis and Hyundai Motor, which had risen on expectations of Apple Car collaboration, continue to maintain gains in the 20% range in the afternoon, and Kia Motors and SK Innovation are also recording double-digit gains. In addition, Kakao, NAVER, and Samsung SDI are showing strength.


On the other hand, the KOSDAQ index, which attempted to challenge the 1000 mark, is somewhat stalled. The KOSDAQ index also started the day higher but turned downward around 9:20 a.m. and has not moved significantly around the 980 level. As of 1:20 p.m., it is recording 988.18, down 0.68 points (0.07%) from the previous trading day.


By investor type, individual investors are net buyers with 219.9 billion KRW, while institutional and foreign investors are net sellers with 143 billion KRW and 56.9 billion KRW, respectively.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, CJ ENM, EcoPro BM, Celltrion Healthcare, and KMH are rising, while Alteogen, Genexine, and Seegene are declining.
