[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A sex offender who cut off his electronic ankle bracelet and fled was caught by the police within two days.
On the 6th, the Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency announced that they arrested Mr. A (38), who cut off his electronic ankle bracelet and escaped, as a suspect in the act at around 10:20 PM the previous day in Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do.
Mr. A is accused of violating the Act on the Protection and Electronic Monitoring of Specific Criminal Offenders after cutting his electronic ankle bracelet with a cutter and fleeing from a motel in Okcheon, Chungbuk, at 4:58 PM on the 3rd.
He traveled approximately 285 km from Okcheon to Jindo, Jeollanam-do, using public transportation such as buses and taxis.
After receiving a report from the probation office, the police deployed about 30 officers from the Okcheon Police Station and the Chungbuk Police Agency’s Violent and Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit.
The police caught Mr. A in Jindo through citizen tips and cooperation among the police forces of Chungnam, Daejeon, Gwangju, and Jeonnam.
Mr. A told the police that "the electronic ankle bracelet felt suffocating," and it was reported that he did not commit any additional crimes.
The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant due to the seriousness of the case and the risk of flight.
