Tears of Twin Mom Lee Young-ae Visiting 'Jeong-in's Grave' Near Her Home

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Actress Lee Young-ae visited the Hi Family Andersen Park Cemetery in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, on the 5th with her children. The visit was to pay tribute to Jeong-in, a girl who died after being abused by her adoptive parents.

Lee Young-ae's agency, Good People, stated on the 5th, "It is true that Lee Young-ae visited the Hi Family Andersen Park Cemetery in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province today with her twin children and husband."

They added, "Since the children were on vacation and staying at their Yangpyeong home, and they learned that Jeong-in's grave was within about a 10-minute drive, they visited in person to pay their respects."

They further explained, "(Lee Young-ae) was saddened after learning about Jeong-in's case and quietly visited with her family, so neither agency staff nor her manager accompanied them," adding, "The reporters present recognized her, and after the visit was reported, we were contacted."

Lee Young-ae was seen shedding tears at Jeong-in's burial site that day. It is presumed that Lee, who has shown continuous interest in child welfare since giving birth to twins, visited the cemetery out of a heavy heart.

Jeong-in was adopted by her adoptive parents at seven months old and suffered abuse and violence until she passed away at 16 months old on October 13 last year at a hospital in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. Investigations revealed that she died from severe trauma to her back.

Jeong-in's remains were interred on October 16 last year at the Hi Family Andersen Park Cemetery, a specialized children's natural burial site. On that day, visitors paying tribute included not only Lee Young-ae but also other mourners.

Meanwhile, the Jeong-in abuse case drew national outrage after being re-examined on SBS's "Unanswered Questions" on the 2nd. The "Sorry Jeong-in" challenge is rapidly spreading, and movements to submit petitions to prevent another tragedy like Jeong-in's are underway.
