Gyeongbuk Sangju City Receives 'A Grade' in Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Natural Disaster Safety Evaluation... Uiseong County Included Sangju City Hall

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Sangju City, Gyeongbuk Province, announced on the 5th that it received an A grade in the '2020 Natural Disaster Regional Safety Diagnosis' conducted on 228 local governments nationwide.

Regional safety is a system in which the Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluates the safety regarding natural disasters by analyzing natural disaster risk factors and utilizing the performance of disaster prevention measures and facility maintenance promotion for local governments every year.

After verification by the central inspection team on 53 indicators in three categories?14 disaster risk factors, 26 disaster prevention measures, and 13 facility inspections and maintenance?the safety index is calculated and graded from A to E.

The closer to grade A, the better the safety. Local governments that receive an A grade can receive an additional 2% national treasury support for damage recovery costs when a special disaster area is declared the following year. In Gyeongbuk Province, Sangju City and Uiseong County received A grades. There are 4 places with B grade, 2 with C grade, 6 with D grade, and 9 with E grade.

Mayor Kang Young-seok said, "Natural disasters are unpredictable due to global warming," and added, "We will continuously manage the natural disaster response system to protect the precious lives and property of citizens and ensure a safe living environment."
