[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 5th that starting from the 2021 academic year, it will expand the placement of health teachers to all public and private schools with 40 or more students.

Health teachers in public schools are assigned by the Ministry of Education, and in the 2021 academic year, they will be placed in 585 schools with 40 or more students (109% compared to last year). This is an increase of 50 schools compared to last year.

Health teachers in private schools are assigned according to the education office's own allocation plan. Accordingly, 143 schools (139% compared to last year) will be staffed according to the public school placement criteria. This is an increase of 40 schools compared to last year.

In the 2020 academic year, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education placed health teachers in 638 public schools (69.1%) with 70 or more students, but from the 2021 academic year, it has expanded to 728 public and private schools (78.5%) with 40 or more students. The additional number of health teachers required is 90.

Additionally, 38 large schools with 34 or more classes and 850 or more students (36 elementary schools and 2 high schools) will have additional contract health teachers assigned to provide health education for infectious disease prevention.

In particular, among schools with fewer than 40 students that do not have health teachers, excluding combined middle and high schools, 154 schools will be served by health teachers from the Education Support Office who will circulate to provide high-quality medical services and support health education, thereby protecting students' safety and health rights.

Superintendent Lim Jong-sik emphasized, "We will do our best to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections in schools with care and consideration like a mother's embrace that does not give up on any child, so that our children can focus on learning in good health."
