Disclosure of Four Future Work Promotion Directions
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] On the 4th, Kim Young-gi, President of the Korea Financial Security Institute, announced four directions for future tasks in his 2021 New Year's address, stating, "We will fulfill our role and responsibility as the security guard of the financial industry, protecting the public's financial assets safely and providing security and reliability for financial products and services."
First, the Korea Financial Security Institute plans to strengthen its cyber defense capabilities in the financial sector more thoroughly and robustly. President Kim said, "We plan to advance financial security infrastructure such as the next-generation financial security monitoring system, the cross-financial sector voice phishing information sharing system, and the dark web threat information collection and response system."
Second, amid the opening and competitive environment of the financial industry, we will steadily support safe digital finance and data distribution, utilization, and protection. Specifically, we will enhance the Financial Data Exchange and data specialized institution services, implement a continuous information security evaluation system, and reliably perform support roles such as establishing and operating the MyData standard API, authentication system, and testbed.
Third, we will support strengthening security in the financial sector in response to changes in the non-face-to-face and untact environment. President Kim said, "We will minimize risks from the introduction of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), proactively respond to third-party risks such as cloud services, strengthen non-face-to-face educational capabilities, and prepare security guidelines related to non-face-to-face and untact environments to effectively respond to new security demands." Additionally, he stated that all employees will be equipped with expertise, reliability, and flexibility to actively respond to the financial security-related missions and roles required by the market.
President Kim urged the executives and staff, saying, "Cyber threats and COVID-19 share the commonality that even with good preparation, a moment of negligence can lead to damage, but cyber threats are a never-ending war with no moment of truce." He added, "To this end, the Korea Financial Security Institute will overcome the challenges and difficulties ahead together with the spirit of 금석위개 (Geumseok Wi Gae, meaning 'even metal and stone can be carved')," urging everyone to unite.
