Busan City, '2020 Dream Tree Winter Vacation English Camp'
January 18-29 for 600 students from 3rd grade elementary to 3rd grade middle school
Recruiting low-income, multicultural, and multi-child families until the 8th
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Busan Metropolitan City will operate the "Dream Tree English Camp" for children from low-income and vulnerable groups in a non-face-to-face format during this winter vacation.
The Dream Tree English Camp has been running since 2010 to provide experiential English learning for low-income and vulnerable students from 3rd grade elementary to 3rd grade middle school. This winter vacation, it will switch to a non-face-to-face format to prevent COVID-19.
This winter vacation camp will be held from January 18 to 29 for 10 days at Busan Global Village, providing online content that elementary and middle school students (about 600 students) can study at home.
The target students include children from low-income families primarily to reduce educational gaps, as well as children from multicultural and large families. Candidates will be selected based on recommendations from district and county offices by January 8.
Selected students will first receive an "English Learning Experience Kit," consisting of a manual and various class materials, by mail. Students will then attend classes by watching video lectures produced by Global Village for each experience room, using teaching aids and worksheets.
Individual students' educational progress will be monitored online to provide feedback for effective learning, and all educational expenses will be fully supported by the city.
Since its launch in 2010, the "Dream Tree English Camp," now in its 11th year, has had about 800 participants annually, offering valuable English learning experiences especially for students with no prior experience in other English programs.
Byun Sung-wan, Acting Mayor of Busan, said, "This year, due to COVID-19, we cannot conduct in-person education and must operate in a non-face-to-face manner. However, we have structured the program so that students can learn English conversation through immersive video lectures utilizing various experiential facilities at Busan Global Village."
