Busan University of Science and Technology Provides Basic CPR Training to All New Students... Life-saving in Emergency Situations Students at Busan University of Science and Technology are learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan Institute of Science and Technology (President Kang Ki-seong) has decided to provide BLS education to all freshmen for the 2021 academic year.

BLS (basic life support) is a basic life-saving training course recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA). It refers to emergency measures performed by a nearby person on someone who has experienced cardiopulmonary arrest. It is AHA's life-saving training that uses chest compressions, artificial respiration, and AED (automated external defibrillator) to save lives in a timely manner.

In Korea, about 30,000 people suffer sudden cardiac arrest annually, and more than 80% of deaths occur at home or workplace, meaning most cases happen in situations where witnesses are present.

In various emergency situations around us, appropriate first aid by the first responder before professional medical treatment plays a crucial role in saving precious lives.

Busan Institute of Science and Technology informs students of the importance of BLS education and provides specialized training to all freshmen so they can contribute to their families and society in various emergency situations.

Starting from the first semester of the 2021 academic year, about 1,600 students will be divided into 80 classes, each with 20 students.

President Kang Ki-seong said, “Our university promotes not only demand-oriented professional education but also holistic social education that contributes to and serves the local community,” adding, “I hope this will be an opportunity to professionally learn the basic knowledge and skills to save lives in various emergency situations.”
