[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Lee Sujin, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, on the 28th criticized Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, saying, "I hope the investigation into the nuclear power plant goes beyond the suspicion of economic feasibility evaluation manipulation to include an investigation into the 'living nuclear power mafia power'."

Lee stated this in a post on her Facebook on the same day, saying, "Safety is more important than economic feasibility for nuclear power plants."

She said, "It is said that Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol went to work even during the Christmas holiday to receive an investigation report on the 'suspicion of economic evaluation manipulation of Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1,'" and added, "It is expected that he will soon give specific investigation instructions. The deletion of Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant data by a Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy official cannot be considered lawful."

She continued, "On this occasion, the public should be made aware of the 'uncomfortable truths' about nuclear power plants and the suspicions concealed by the nuclear power mafia," and claimed, "It has been revealed that the groundwater at the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant site in Gyeongju was contaminated with tritium, a radioactive substance."

She emphasized, "Safety is more important than economic feasibility for nuclear power plants," adding, "Because it is a matter directly related to public safety."

Lee said that when the prosecution investigates the early shutdown of the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant, they should consider not only economic feasibility but also safety. She said, "If the prosecution focuses only on the economic feasibility investigation of the nuclear power plant and ignores safety issues, it cannot be free from suspicions of political or planned investigations," and reiterated, "Safety should also be investigated on this occasion."

She also said, "I hope Prosecutor General Yoon's investigation into the nuclear power plant includes an investigation into the 'living nuclear power mafia power' beyond the 'suspicion of economic evaluation manipulation,'" adding, "Only then will the public be able to know Yoon's true intentions."

According to multiple media reports earlier, Prosecutor General Yoon returned to work on the 25th and went to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, to receive investigation status reports on major cases such as the 'suspicion of economic evaluation manipulation of Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant.'

Meanwhile, the Board of Audit and Inspection disclosed on October 20 that the 'economic feasibility,' which was the basis for the early shutdown decision of Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, was unreasonably evaluated low.
