[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 28th, the People’s Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for adopting the personnel hearing report on Byeon Chang-heum, the nominee for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, saying, “Even though the more you verify, the more problematic it is, if it is a hearing that covers up and promotes only those on your side, then don’t waste time on meaningless personnel verification and just line up those who owe you and appoint them in order,” and added, “Instead of digging up pathetic justifications to hide the revealed true intentions, it would be more honest to declare dictatorship.”

In a statement on the same day, Ahn Hye-jin, spokesperson for the People’s Party, said, “During his tenure as president of Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH), nominee Byeon provoked public outrage nationwide with remarks beyond common sense and past behavior that appeared to show moral insensitivity, and even caused controversy over perjury during the hearing process,” and asked, “How long will they continue to push the same old personnel?”

Spokesperson Ahn sharpened her words, saying, “These days, there is no respected minister to be found, and every nominee appointed is a complete mess. We should be grateful to the current administration, which seems to awaken many citizens to politics and nurture them into increasingly righteous fighters.”

Spokesperson Ahn also stated, “The current administration, which puts people’s livelihood and safety aside and only thinks about extending its rule, should realize that it is plunging the national economy into ruin and driving the people into the abyss of collapse not due to natural disasters but due to human-made disasters.”
