22018 10,000-won Transportation Cards Donated, Totaling 2.2 Billion Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Seoul Metro and the labor union within the corporation announced on the 24th that they donated T-money transportation cards worth a total of 2.256 billion KRW to students from low-income families. A total of 22,018 cards were donated, each loaded with 100,000 KRW.
The donation fund was prepared by returning a total of 2.26 billion KRW, which combined 1.75 billion KRW originally planned for employee welfare expenses and 510 million KRW for event expenses.
After discussing social contribution projects that could leverage the characteristics of the corporation operating the subway, the corporation and the labor union agreed to support T-money transportation cards loaded with funds to students from low-income families in the Seoul area who are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donated transportation cards will be primarily used to support transportation costs for students from low-income families through the Public Coexistence Solidarity Fund.
Kim Sang-beom, President of Seoul Metro, said, "I am grateful to the employees and the labor union who participated in helping socially vulnerable groups despite difficult circumstances," and added, "I hope this donation will help guarantee transportation rights for neighbors in need, such as students from low-income families."
