[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 22nd that it has selected the winning design for the architectural design competition for the construction of a comprehensive senior center in the southern region.
According to the city, the nationwide competition for the construction of the comprehensive senior center resulted in the selection of the work by the Seoul-based architectural firm ‘Isek’.
The winning design was evaluated as one that makes good use of the characteristics of wooden structures, harmonizes with the surrounding environment through building layout, and induces communication within the space by rationally composing external spaces for each floor function, providing a comfortable environment for the elderly users.
The city selected the former Jinyang History Hall, which had been left as an eyesore and subject to continuous complaints from residents for years, as the site for the comprehensive senior center, thus achieving both environmental improvement and facility expansion.
The comprehensive senior center will be promoted simultaneously with the living culture center and is expected to be used as a leisure facility for the elderly, including a senior restaurant, physical therapy room, offices, and various senior leisure program rooms.
Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, “The construction of the southern region comprehensive senior center, a long-cherished project, is being promoted with eco-friendly construction methods, and it is expected to help healthy old age by providing a place for the elderly to engage in sound leisure activities, health promotion, and social participation.”
