[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] A man from France set a world record by enduring more than two and a half hours in ice to raise funds for children with cancer.
Romain Bandendorf (34), who works in the medical field, successfully endured 2 hours 35 minutes and 43 seconds with only his face exposed while immersing his bare body in a tub filled with ice in Hauts-de-France, northern France, on the 19th (local time), AFP reported.
According to Bandendorf, the reason he was able to stay in the ice for such a long time was because he had practiced enduring by sitting in cold bathtubs or large refrigerators, or buried in the snow at the ski resort in Chamonix, France.
He also revealed that he had trained to overcome human limits by employing neurocognitive techniques based on imagination and meditation.
Having surpassed the previous record by 40 minutes to set a new world record, he shared his thoughts, saying, "If you dedicate yourself to training, you can achieve better results."
Meanwhile, he announced that the money raised from this challenge will be donated to the "Wonder Augustin" association, established in the name of a 4-year-old girl who died of a brain tumor two years ago. AFP reported that Bandendorf had a brief encounter with Augustin just days before she passed away.
The association explained, "For every minute he endures in the ice, anyone can donate 1 euro (about 1,300 won)."
Bandendorf encouraged children with cancer, saying, "You must always have hope."
