[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Korea Citi Bank announced on the 18th that it held the ‘2020 Korea Social Enterprise Awards’ ceremony on the afternoon of the 17th at Front1 in Mapo-gu, Seoul, in collaboration with Synnarae Association.
The ‘Korea Social Enterprise Awards’ was established in 2017, sponsored by Korea Citi Bank and organized by Synnarae Association, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the enforcement of the Social Enterprise Promotion Act and the 50th anniversary of Citi’s entry into Korea.
The award aims to contribute to the revitalization of social enterprises by discovering and encouraging excellent social enterprises that lead warm growth in our society through solving social problems.
The awards were divided into three categories: job creation, social innovation, and growth. A total of 52 applicant companies underwent document screening, on-site inspection, company presentations, and final evaluation by an expert judging panel.
In particular, it was explained that outstanding social enterprises were selected for continuously creating jobs for vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic, producing educational tools for visually impaired children in social welfare blind spots, and providing high-quality social welfare services for socially disadvantaged people through social welfare informatization.
In the job creation category, Social Cooperative Gangseo Nanum Care Center was selected; in the social innovation category, Damsimpo; and in the growth category, Kyungsung Technology received plaques and prize money of 10 million won each.
Yoo Myung-soon, President of Korea Citi Bank, said, "Even in these difficult times due to COVID-19, we will continue to support in various ways so that the social economy can be revitalized along with the award-winning companies that are doing their best to create social value."
