[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun has lent support to the Southeast Mega City and Southern Inland Railway projects, which Governor Kim Kyung-soo of Gyeongnam Province is prioritizing.

On the morning of the 4th, after presiding over a Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting at the Gyeongnam Provincial Office, Prime Minister Chung told reporters, “The Bu-Ul-Gyeong Mega City could serve as an idea to alleviate the concentration in the metropolitan area from the perspective of national balanced development.”

He said, “There is strong interest among the residents of the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region in the Southeast Mega City proposed by Governor Kim,” and emphasized, “The government values the precious principle of national balanced development and will continue to support regional balanced development going forward.”

He added, “The most important thing is to build consensus with local residents and regional political circles and to join forces,” promising, “We will closely monitor local efforts and ensure that such discussions are actively carried out.”

Regarding the Southern Inland High-Speed Railway, which is being promoted as a government-funded project, he stated, “One of the core elements of national balanced development is the transportation network, but our country still has many shortcomings in railways and aviation,” and added, “It is right for the state to take responsibility for completing the railway network.”

On real estate policy, Prime Minister Chung said, “If speculative areas emerge, policies should be separately established for those areas to strengthen regulations in regions where housing prices are rapidly rising.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun is scheduled to inspect the status of Masan Medical Center, a dedicated infectious disease hospital, and attend the opening ceremony of the Korea Institute of Materials Science.
