[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter]The Ministry of National Defense announced on the 2nd that seven additional cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the military.


At the Army Recruit Training Battalion (Shingyodae) in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, where the largest cluster infection in the military occurred, three more trainees tested positive, bringing the total confirmed cases in the unit to 75. They were classified as contacts of previously confirmed cases and developed symptoms while in quarantine, leading to testing.


Additionally, one Army officer in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, was classified as a contact of a civilian confirmed case, underwent diagnostic testing, and tested positive. One Army officer in Goyang tested positive after receiving a diagnostic test following a family member's confirmation.


One Army officer in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, and one Army officer in Jecheon, Chungbuk Province, were each confirmed positive after undergoing diagnostic tests due to symptom onset. The military is isolating new confirmed cases and their contacts while conducting diagnostic tests based on ongoing epidemiological investigations.


As of 10 a.m. on the day, the total cumulative confirmed cases in the military reached 382, with 178 currently receiving treatment. The remaining 204 have recovered.


According to health authorities' standards, 2,169 individuals are in quarantine, and the military is isolating 4,179 people preventively based on its own criteria.
