[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza (AI) announced on the 1st that, following the occurrence of a suspected case of highly pathogenic AI at a laying hen farm in Sangju-si, Gyeongbuk Province, a temporary Standstill order will be issued for four cities and provinces: Gyeongbuk, Chungnam, Chungbuk, and Sejong.
The order will be effective from 9 PM on the 1st until 9 PM on the 3rd (48 hours) for Gyeongbuk, Chungnam, Chungbuk, and Sejong, and until 9 PM on the 2nd (24 hours) for Gangwon. The order applies to poultry farms, livestock facilities (such as slaughterhouses and feed factories), and livestock vehicles.
During the standstill period, the Central Inspection Team (17 teams, 34 members) will be organized to monitor compliance with the order, and nationwide disinfection will be conducted on poultry farms, migratory bird habitats (including small streams and reservoirs), livestock facilities, and vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters stated that violation of the temporary Standstill order may result in imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million KRW, according to Article 57 of the Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Act.
