[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun reportedly mentioned the necessity of the joint resignation of Justice Minister Chu Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl during his meeting with President Moon Jae-in.

According to government and political sources on the 30th, during the regular meeting held at the Blue House with President Moon, Prime Minister Chung exchanged opinions regarding the conflict between Minister Chu and Prosecutor General Yoon, as well as Yoon's disciplinary issues, and made such remarks.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Chung expressed concern, saying, "The disciplinary issue concerning Prosecutor General Yoon is becoming a significant burden on state administration," and added, "Especially since Yoon has brought about a situation where he cannot perform his duties regardless of the disciplinary process, voluntary resignation has become an unavoidable situation."

Regarding the ongoing collective actions within the prosecution, he reportedly criticized them as "inappropriate behavior that forgets the status of a public official, regardless of the reasons."

Prime Minister Chung also reportedly suggested that "while Prosecutor General Yoon's voluntary resignation is preferable, if he does not step down, it is necessary to consider the option of joint resignation with Minister Chu."

President Moon, while listening to Prime Minister Chung's opinion, is said to have expressed his frustration, stating, "I am also deeply troubled."

After the meeting, President Moon stated at the afternoon senior secretaries and aides meeting, "Public officials must pioneer this era of upheaval with a spirit of putting the community's interest before the group's interest," and added, "Even if there is pain and difficulty, we must boldly part ways with the old through reform and innovation."
