[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Comedian Kim Hyun-young revealed on a broadcast that she "was a victim of a fraudulent marriage" in the past.
On the 26th, Kim Hyun-young appeared on EBS 1's "Life Story: Full of Ups and Downs" and confessed about her married life with her ex-husband, saying, "I was a victim of a fraudulent marriage."
She recalled her ex-husband, who was eight years older and whom she met through matchmaking, saying, "He owned three apartments. The house was 80 pyeong, and there was a guesthouse by the seaside. The walk-in closet inside the house was filled with luxury goods."
She added, "There were no problems during the one year we dated. I was the one who brought up marriage first. I thought he was very good at marriage," and revealed that she went ahead with the marriage despite her mother's opposition.
However, after the wedding, her ex-husband began to distance himself from Kim. She said, "After we got married, he even disliked coming once a week. You know, you just get a feeling."
It turned out that her husband was not a wealthy man but a debtor. She confessed, "One day, when I went to the house in Busan, it was covered with red stickers. This happened just two months after we got married. My ex-husband blamed his older brother. He said he needed 300 million won, so I borrowed money from acquaintances to help him."
She continued, "My mother suffered a mental illness because I was forced into a marriage she did not want, and she stayed in the intensive care unit for a month before passing away. At that time, my ex-husband said, 'Your mother doesn't like me, so I don't want to see her face,' and told me to handle the funeral alone," she revealed.
She added, "He said he would only use the condolence money for a few days, but he didn't even give me that money. When my mother passed away, I felt like I realized on my own that it was a fraudulent marriage."
Kim Hyun-young explained that about two years after their separation, her ex-husband contacted her, saying, "I will have 2 billion won in debt under your name. So I agreed to the divorce. Although we did not share the debt, I sold the house I lived in to repay the money I borrowed from acquaintances for my ex-husband."
She added, "When I got divorced, I found out I was his fourth wife," and said, "I developed a mental illness. No matter who introduces someone to me, I can't trust them," evoking sympathy.
