Mapo-gu Provides 50,000 Masks to Specially Employed Workers Including Delivery Couriers and Security Guards

1600 Workers Including Delivery Drivers, Substitute Drivers, Broadcast Freelancers, and Apartment Security Guards... 30 Masks Distributed Per Person Through the Laborers' Comprehensive Support Center

Mapo-gu Provides 50,000 Masks to Specially Employed Workers Including Delivery Couriers and Security Guards Mask Support for Apartment Security Workers by Mapo-gu Workers' Comprehensive Support Center

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) Labor Comprehensive Support Center will distribute 50,000 masks to about 1,600 special employment workers, freelancers, and apartment security workers who are threatened in their livelihood and safety due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Special employment workers eligible for mask distribution refer to workers in the form of individual business operators who find customers or provide labor based on consignment contracts or subcontract contracts rather than employment contracts, and receive allowances according to their performance.

Generally, this includes insurance solicitors, delivery workers, private tutor teachers, and substitute drivers, as well as freelancers such as broadcasters, directors, copywriters, and designers who are not affiliated with companies or organizations but sign free contracts.

In particular, Mapo-gu has many labor unions such as freelance editing workers, designers, and the Broadcasting Writers Union centered around the Sangam-dong broadcasting district.

Despite being exposed to overwork environments or livelihood threats due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, such as a surge in workload or a sharp decrease in face-to-face work, they are in a legal and institutional blind spot where it is difficult to receive government support.

Accordingly, the Mapo-gu Labor Comprehensive Support Center began distributing a total of 50,000 masks to these 1,600 people starting from the 20th.

The district plans to complete the distribution of 30 masks (KF94) per person by mid-December, starting with apartment security workers who continuously face residents, and focusing on major special employment workers and freelancer groups.

Special employment workers and freelancers not affiliated with any group can receive masks by visiting the Mapo-gu Labor Comprehensive Support Center.

This mask support is not for the general public, and detailed inquiries can be made to the Mapo-gu Labor Comprehensive Support Center.

Meanwhile, the Mapo-gu Labor Comprehensive Support Center, launched in January this year (3rd floor of Mapo Startup Welfare Center in Sangam-dong), provides comprehensive support services to improve workers' lives, including free labor law consultations, labor rights education, and worker welfare programs.

Mayor Yudonggyun of Mapo-gu said, “As the third wave of COVID-19 is expected to intensify, we will promptly distribute masks to the target groups to help support their livelihood and safety even a little.”
