[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Ki-jun urged Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae to resign, criticizing her decision to suspend Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol from duty and request disciplinary action, calling it "an outrageous act that has become the target of public criticism."
On the 26th, Yoo posted on his Facebook, "You can cover the sun with your palm, but no matter how wide the cloth is, it cannot cover the truth," expressing his criticism.
He further pointed out regarding Minister Choo's move to suspend and discipline Prosecutor General Yoon, "Guaranteeing the term of the Prosecutor General is to ensure that the exercise of prosecutorial power aligns with justice, free from political influence."
He added, "I strongly suspect that the suspension order was issued for incomprehensible reasons because investigations into the Ulsan mayoral election, nuclear power plant-related cases, and the Lime and Optimus scandals did not go their way, causing a sense of crisis," and strongly criticized, "I believe President Moon Jae-in, who appointed the Prosecutor General, shares this view."
Regarding a public opinion poll where Prosecutor General Yoon ranked first in presidential candidate support, he analyzed, "It is a strange phenomenon that the sitting Prosecutor General is being touted as a presidential candidate of the opposition, but it is even more unusual that he leads combined support from both ruling and opposition parties in the poll," adding, "This shows that Minister Choo's outrageous actions have become the target of public criticism, while conversely, Yoon is receiving supportive gestures."
He emphasized, "The public's protest message toward the president, who seems to be neglecting or even encouraging this situation, is strong," and urged, "The suspension order should be withdrawn promptly, and Minister Choo must resign."
Meanwhile, in a presidential candidate support survey conducted by Hangil Research on behalf of Cookie News from the 7th to the 9th of this month targeting 1,022 adults nationwide, and announced on the 11th, 24.7% of respondents supported Prosecutor General Yoon.
Following him were Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon with 22.2%, Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung with 18.4%, independent lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo with 5.6%, People’s Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo with 4.2%, and Justice Party lawmaker Shim Sang-jung with 3.4%.
