[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Japan reported 2,502 new daily confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).


According to the Japanese public broadcaster NHK's tally on the 26th, as of 8:30 PM, 2,502 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide in Japan. As a result, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Japan increased to 141,000.


Japan's daily COVID-19 cases peaked at 2,591 on the 21st, then decreased to 1,228 on the 24th, but rose again to 1,946 the previous day, and surpassed 2,500 cases today.


On this day, the number of new COVID-19 cases by region included 481 in Tokyo, 326 in Osaka Prefecture, and 256 in Hokkaido. Following Tokyo, Aichi Prefecture also requested restaurants, bars, and clubs serving alcohol in the downtown area of Nagoya City to shorten their business hours from 5 AM to 9 PM. The requested period for shortened hours is from the 29th of this month to the 18th of next month. The previous day, Tokyo also requested restaurants serving alcohol and karaoke rooms to shorten their business hours to 10 PM for three weeks starting from the 28th.
