Naver Sets Employee 'Level'... Introduces Evaluation System

[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Naver is introducing a 'Level System' to evaluate the growth of its employees.

On the 26th, according to Naver, a briefing session was recently held to introduce the level system for the technical workforce. Initially, a five-level system ranging from levels 3 to 7 will be implemented for the technical staff. However, this is a personal evaluation system and will not be publicly announced.

A Naver representative stated, "Since there were no existing titles or ranks, there was a high demand for visibility in growth," adding, "We judged that reorganization was necessary as the company achieves growth through global expansion."

Unlike the traditional corporate rank system such as employee-assistant manager-manager-deputy general manager-general manager, the IT industry maintains a horizontal structure without ranks. Most companies have a culture of adding 'nim' to names or using English names. In Naver's case, except for leaders or responsible leaders who correspond to executives, the honorific 'nim' is attached to names.

Naver plans to provide a way to motivate employees' growth through the 'Level System.' However, it emphasized that this does not mean the revival of the rank system.

A Naver representative added, "Although the (level system) is not immediately linked to compensation, we plan to carefully review linking it in the long term."
