Emergency Support of 22.7 Billion Won in 'Disaster Safety Special Grant' for COVID-19 Prevention Measures


[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] As the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) rapidly increases recently, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 26th that it will provide 22.7 billion KRW in disaster safety special grants to 17 cities and provinces for urgent local response.


This special grant is intended to support costs necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, such as operating screening clinics and strengthening the management of confirmed cases and self-quarantined individuals.


By region, Gyeonggi will receive 3.3 billion KRW, Seoul 3.2 billion KRW, Incheon 2.5 billion KRW, Gwangju 1.7 billion KRW, Gangwon 1.7 billion KRW, Busan 1.6 billion KRW, Chungnam and Jeonnam each 1.5 billion KRW, Gyeongnam 1.3 billion KRW, and Jeonbuk 1 billion KRW. Also, Daegu and Daejeon will each receive 700 million KRW, Chungbuk 600 million KRW, Ulsan 500 million KRW, and Sejong, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju will each receive 300 million KRW.


The Ministry of the Interior and Safety explained that the scale of this special grant support was decided by comprehensively considering the number of confirmed cases and self-quarantined individuals in each local government.


Minister Jin Young of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety urged, "In the situation where the community spread of COVID-19 is rapidly expanding, local governments should do their best to block infections through social distancing in cooperation with local residents."
