[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Kim Youngsoon, a member of the Buk-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Duam 1, 2, 3, Punghyang, Munhwa, Seokgok-dong), recently requested improvements to the lunchbox menu provided to elderly people and the reduction of disposable container use through the lunchbox delivery project for mobility-impaired seniors during the 2020 Economic Welfare Committee administrative audit, the 26th reported.
Buk-gu provides daily lunch delivery service to 160 elderly people through the self-support enterprise Jami Food as part of the lunchbox delivery project for mobility-impaired seniors.
Councilor Kim Youngsoon said, “By chance, while visiting elderly people to check on them, I looked at the delivered lunchbox menu and found that fish cutlets and sausages, which do not suit the seniors’ tastes, were provided as side dishes, causing many of them to leave their side dishes uneaten,” adding, “The relevant department should reconsider the menu from the seniors’ perspective and make improvements.”
She continued, “Due to COVID-19, the use of plastic containers at home has increased explosively, and plastic lunchboxes are also being provided daily to the elderly,” adding, “I hope reusable lunchboxes will be used considering environmental aspects.”
