Gwangju Seo-gu Selected Most Outstanding Cases for 5 Consecutive Years at the National Residents' Autonomy Expo

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) has been honored as the district with the most selections for excellent cases at the National Residents' Autonomy Expo for five consecutive years.

Seo-gu announced on the 26th that six cases passed the second interview screening in the 19th National Residents' Autonomy Expo Excellent Cases Contest.

The excellent cases that passed the second screening are ▲In the residents' autonomy category: Chipyeong-dong's "Happy Chipyeong Connecting People," Hwajeong 3-dong's "Hey You Too? Hey Me Too? Everyone! Hwasamgol Aurem Clinic," and Pungam-dong's "Looking at the Village Together! The Vibrant New Tonghan Pungam Village" ▲In the learning community category: Hwajeong 1-dong's "Connecting Schools and Villages" ▲In the residents' organization network category: Nongsung 1-dong's "With Corona Era, Tumultuous Village Chronicles, United We Bloom!" ▲In the institutional policy category: Residents' Autonomy Division's "By the Residents! For the Residents! Autonomous Seo-gu!"

A total of 309 excellent cases were submitted nationwide for this contest, and after the first document screening and the second interview screening, 68 excellent cases were selected.

Seo-gu applied in five categories: residents' autonomy, regional revitalization, learning community, residents' organization network, and institutional policy. Nine cases were selected in the first document screening, and six cases across four categories were finally chosen as excellent cases in the second interview screening held on the 23rd.

Seo-gu has been the district with the most selections for excellent cases at the National Residents' Autonomy Expo for five consecutive years, with 4 cases in 2016, 5 in 2017, 7 in 2018, and 9 in 2019.

Notably, Seo-gu is the only district nationwide to have excellent cases selected in four categories in this contest.

The 68 excellent cases that passed the second screening will undergo an online exhibition hall evaluation for six days starting from the 2nd of next month.

Among them, six top excellent cases will participate in the final evaluation held at the Sejong Convention Center on the 11th of next month, competing for the prestigious grand prize.

At last year's 18th National Residents' Autonomy Expo, Geumho 1-dong in Seo-gu won the grand prize.

Seo Daeseok, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, "I believe this is the result of our efforts to establish a Seo-gu style autonomy model full of village autonomy and diversity despite the residents' autonomy environment being constrained by COVID-19," adding, "We will continue to do our best to strengthen the practical authority of residents and realize a complete residents' autonomy community where participation from various social groups leads to village transformation."
