Prime Minister Jeong: "Strengthening Safety Measures for Overseas Product Purchase, Customs Clearance, and Distribution"

Prime Minister Jeong: "Strengthening Safety Measures for Overseas Product Purchase, Customs Clearance, and Distribution" Prime Minister Jeong Sye-kyun

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on the 26th, "The government will strengthen safety measures to ensure there are no gaps at all stages including purchasing, customs clearance, and distribution of overseas products, and will actively protect consumer rights by holding agents responsible in case of damages."

At the 118th Government Policy Coordination Meeting held at the Government Complex Sejong on the same day, Prime Minister Chung stated, "Consumer damages caused by direct overseas purchases occur frequently, and recently, social concerns have arisen due to the illegal import of products without guaranteed safety."

He added, "Tomorrow is the day of the Black Friday sale event in the United States, marking the start of the peak season for overseas direct purchases. The Customs Service and related ministries should support smooth customs clearance while thoroughly monitoring and cracking down on illegal and harmful goods."

He further instructed, "Each ministry should actively support small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies to ensure no difficulties in online overseas sales, and check whether there are any obstacles to reverse direct purchases, where overseas consumers buy our products online."

Regarding the 'Winter Power Supply and Coal Power Reduction Measures,' Prime Minister Chung said, "In recent years, there have been no major problems with winter power supply. However, risks begin with the vague belief that such problems will not occur, so it is important to prepare assuming the worst-case scenario." He urged, "The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and related ministries should maintain power reserve levels and work with tension and full effort to reduce fine dust."

Meanwhile, at the start of the meeting, Prime Minister Chung mentioned, "From today, meetings will be conducted in a way that minimizes paper documents to quickly transition to the untact era. It may not be easy at first, but since it is a small practice for resource saving and environmental protection, I hope all ministries actively participate in reducing the use of paper documents in both internal and external meetings."
