[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 25th that it plans to strengthen professional support and management and enhance the substance of the ‘Customized Youth Housing Support Project,’ which is being promoted to provide affordable and safe housing spaces for youth.

Through a city and county public contest, the province selected one site in Sacheon City, where youth housing is newly constructed in a location with good transportation accessibility, and one site in Goseong County, where an idle public facility is being remodeled, as pilot projects for this year’s customized youth housing in October, supporting 50% of the total project cost.

Considering that professionalism and strengthening the capabilities of the ordering institutions are most important for the project to be carried out effectively, the province decided to enhance advisory support from public architects who can professionally oversee, coordinate, and advise on public architecture-related planning and design.

A working council consisting of public architects, the province, cities and counties, designers, and local youth will be formed to provide professional review and advice on the entire project from planning and design to construction and operation, and to regularly check the progress.

Since the opinions of the youth who will use the housing are essential for the sustainable construction and future operation of youth housing, the project plans to improve quality of life and housing satisfaction by reflecting the thoughts and demands of youth through a process of collecting opinions from resident youth.

Yoon In-guk, Director of the Urban Transportation Bureau of Gyeongnam Province, said, “Through collaboration with private experts and cities and counties, we will create spaces and facilities that provide youth with homes and hope,” adding, “We will continue to actively implement policies to alleviate housing instability among youth and strive to achieve tangible results.”
