[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government will launch a project next year to train on-site personnel for future-oriented vehicles. It will support technical training for about 480 people annually.
On the 25th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it will promote the training project starting next year. The purpose of the project is to cultivate on-site personnel needed throughout the entire future car lifecycle, including not only maintenance but also 'research and development (R&D) - production - usage - disposal and charging infrastructure.'
The national budget support for next year is 1.44 billion KRW based on the government budget proposal. Over the next five years, specialized colleges nationwide equipped with future car transition education environments will be utilized as hub educational institutions. Technical training for about 480 on-site personnel will be supported annually.
In the first year of the project, next year, four hub educational institutions in regional zones nationwide will be selected through a subsequent public contest based on industrial demand.
Specialized colleges selected as educational institutions will provide functional and technical training for future car on-site personnel. They will also serve as hubs for supplying industrial manpower.
The training targets incumbent workers seeking to transition their jobs to the future car sector and new job seekers.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, a certain portion or more of the trainees will be allocated to the maintenance sector, which has a high demand for manpower replenishment.
Priority will also be given to incumbent workers of companies aiming to restructure their businesses from internal combustion engines to future cars.
Choi Namho, Director of Manufacturing Industry Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, emphasized, "The project is being implemented to support the policy task of 'transition to a future car ecosystem,' one of the policy tasks of the 'Future Automobile Industry New Deal Promotion Strategy' announced by the government on the 29th of last month."
Director Choi explained, "We plan to promote the project so that it can enhance the convenience of future car consumers and contribute to companies restructuring their businesses toward future cars."
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, although the cumulative domestic supply of electric vehicles recently surpassed 120,000 units and hydrogen vehicles surpassed 10,000 units for the first time in the world, user inconvenience has not been insignificant due to a shortage of specialized maintenance personnel.
