[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hanwha Q CELLS supplied modules last month to Aviva, the largest insurance company in the UK, for a solar power plant in its parking lot. This project involves building a 1MW (megawatt) scale solar power plant in the parking lot of Aviva's headquarters located in Perth, Scotland. Aviva plans to install Tesla's Energy Storage System (ESS) alongside the solar power plant to operate an electric vehicle charging station as well.
This power plant produces 812MWh (megawatt-hours) of electricity annually. This amount of electricity can supply 500 households per year, enable electric vehicles to travel around the Earth 90 times, and reduce 400,000 kg of carbon emissions annually. In March last year, Hanwha Q CELLS also supplied 600kW (kilowatt) scale solar modules to Aviva's office located in Norwich, UK.
Europe is actively implementing eco-friendly and low-carbon policies. In particular, the European Union (EU) Commission announced the 'European Green Deal' in December last year as a core economic growth strategy for climate change response. The European Green Deal raises climate change response targets and includes key policies such as carbon emission reduction, energy decarbonization, and sustainable transportation for a sustainable future. Accordingly, the renewable energy market in Europe is expected to continue its expansion.
So far, Hanwha Q CELLS has achieved the number one market share in solar modules in Germany, the UK, and Italy, building high recognition in major European markets. Furthermore, in January this year, Hanwha Q CELLS established a vision to evolve into a 'total energy solution company' and is preparing and advancing various businesses in Europe, including solar solutions combined with ESS, power plant development projects, and electricity sales directly to consumers, accelerating its European market penetration.
Kim Hee-chul, President of Hanwha Q CELLS, said, "Hanwha Q CELLS collaborates with global companies based on excellent quality and technology," adding, "In the future, we will provide various energy solutions not only for solar modules but also in line with changes in the global energy market."
Meanwhile, in February, Hanwha Q CELLS was awarded the 'Top Solar Brand' in Europe for the seventh consecutive year by IUPD Research, a solar specialized research institution, based on brand awareness and market penetration. Additionally, in August, it was selected as number one in the electrical industry sector at the 'Best Reputation Award' hosted by Germany's leading economic magazine, FOCUS MONEY.
