[Asia Economy Jo In-kyung Reporter] At around 2:39 a.m. on the 25th, a fire broke out in a two-story motel building in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, resulting in the deaths of two guests and injuries to nine people, including one critically injured.
The fire is believed to have started when a man in his 60s, who had been staying long-term on the first floor, set fire to his room after an argument with the motel owner. The man confessed to starting the fire while being transported to the hospital and was arrested by the police.
The fire department deployed 31 fire trucks and 119 firefighters, extinguishing the flames around 3:15 a.m. and completely putting out the fire by 4 a.m. They are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident and the extent of the damage.
