'Living Forest', a Forest Library Where You Can Enjoy Leisure, Reflection, and Rest with Nature... Resident Wish Fulfilled After 14 Years Since Land Acquisition... Completing Regional Libraries with Bangbae Forest Library Following Seocho, Banpo, Yangjae, and Naegok
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) will begin construction of the nature-friendly forest library 'Bangbae Forest Library,' where residents can enjoy a reading culture in harmony with nature, on the 26th.
This marks the completion of the establishment of five public libraries in the district's five zones (Banpo - Seocho-gu Banpo Library, Naegok - Seocho-gu Naegok Library, Yangjae - Seocho-gu Yangjae Library, Seocho - Seocho Youth Library, Bangbae - Bangbae Forest Library), and it is expected that all Seocho-gu residents will be able to enjoy a balanced reading culture.
Bangbae Forest Library, the ninth district-run public library in Seocho-gu, will be newly constructed with two basement floors and one above-ground floor, covering a total floor area of 1,584㎡, aiming for completion in February 2022.
'Bangbae Forest Library' will be a nature-friendly forest library harmonizing with Seoripul Neighborhood Park and the Cherry Blossom Deck, creating a reading culture space for rest and meditation.
The interior is designed as a reading space overlooking a circular courtyard to secure an open indoor atmosphere, featuring a lobby and general reference room with a living forest concept, a children's materials room, and the Bangbae Forest Study where visitors can enjoy leisure, contemplation, and rest within the forest, among various other spaces.
After 14 years since acquiring the site, the district has finally begun construction of Bangbae Forest Library, resolving a long-standing wish of residents in the Bangbae zone. With public libraries established in all zones of Seocho-gu (Banpo, Naegok, Yangjae, Seocho, Bangbae), the district is expected to leap forward as a genuine cultural and artistic city.
Meanwhile, Seocho-gu's public libraries are well known for each having unique themes.
Yangjae Library, which opened in November last year, introduced the theme of a 'people-centered library,' breaking the stereotype of libraries as quiet and silent places. In October this year, Yangjae Osol Forest Library, an outdoor library responding to the COVID-19 era, was established, and on November 11, Seocho Youth Library, a creative space for children and youth suited to the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, was opened. Seocho-gu's public libraries are already being recognized for presenting a new paradigm that breaks the traditional framework of libraries.
These distinctive libraries have already gained residents' enthusiastic support and have become benchmarking sites for other institutions.
Seocho-gu Mayor Eunhee Jo said, “With the groundbreaking of Bangbae Forest Library, completing the district-wide public library construction project, Seocho-gu will become a livable cultural city where all residents can enjoy cultural benefits.” She added, “We will do our best to improve the quality of library services by providing unique reading culture spaces with various themes incorporating diverse healing elements for Seocho-gu residents.”
