Yangcheon-gu Paints Curb Stones Around Bus Stops in No Parking Zones with Eye-Catching Colors

No Parking or Stopping Around Bus Stops!

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) has decided to visually mark and guide the enforcement zones at bus stops, which are among the four major illegal parking and stopping zones that must be kept clear for smooth traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

According to the district, following the revision of the Road Traffic Act Enforcement Decree last year, parking or stopping is prohibited within 5 meters of a fire hydrant, 5 meters of an intersection corner, 10 meters of a bus stop, and on crosswalks. Along with this, a resident reporting system for illegal parking and stopping vehicles has been implemented, resulting in a sharp increase in related complaints.

In particular, due to vehicles parked around bus stops causing difficulties for two-way traffic and inconvenience for bus passengers boarding and alighting, the district plans to paint the curb stones on both sides 10 meters from the bus stop sign in a noticeable color to visually indicate the fine enforcement zone, thereby promoting the safety of bus users.

Initially, within this month, the district will pilot this by installing markings at six locations between Mokdong Apartment Complex 1 and Hanshin Cheonggu Apartment alley, and two locations between Mokdong Apartment Complex 5 and 6 alleys to prevent illegal parking around bus stops in advance and accurately mark the 10-meter range on both sides, expecting smoother guidance and enforcement.

After the pilot operation, the district plans to carefully review and select other areas threatened by illegal parking and stopping such as crosswalks, fire hydrants, and intersection corners, and continuously expand the painted zones.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “Parking and stopping at bus stops that hinder safe boarding and alighting of bus users not only threaten passenger safety but also obstruct the path of following vehicles, potentially leading to more serious traffic accidents.” He added, “We hope this project will improve awareness for everyone's safety and help establish a considerate traffic culture that respects these rules.”
