Porsche Taycan Sets Longest Drift Record... Registered in Guinness

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Porsche AG announced on the 24th that it has been listed in the Guinness World Records by setting the longest drift record with the Porsche Taycan, the brand's first pure electric sports car.

The challenge took place at the Porsche Experience Center (PEC) Hockenheimring, where Porsche instructor Dennis Retera completed a total of 210 laps on a 200m long drift circle driving the rear-wheel-drive model of the Taycan. This covered a total distance of 42.171 km at an average speed of 46 km/h over 55 minutes, setting the longest continuous drift world record in the electric vehicle category.

Retera explained, "Turning off the driving stability program makes it easier for the Taycan to slide," adding, "Continuous and sufficient power usage, stability ensured by a low center of gravity and a long wheelbase, and precise design of the chassis and steering allow perfect control even during lateral driving."

The challenge was conducted under the supervision of Joanne Brandt, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator, at the Porsche Experience Center Driving Dynamic area. Brandt, who has overseen various Guinness World Records challenges for over five years, stated, "There have been many drift records, but electric sports cars are a special case, and Porsche has played a pioneering role in this field."

The Guinness expert meticulously documented the entire process of the record attempt with full technical support and other specialists. Before the test, a local land survey was conducted, and the Porsche Experience Center area with a diameter of 80m was measured with millimeter (mm) precision. The vehicle's internal GPS and rate sensors, as well as cameras installed on the roof during the driving record capture, were used for documentation purposes.

Another independent expert, Dennis Ritzmann, verified the driving safety of the Taycan before the world record attempt. Ritzmann, a drifting specialist and European drifting champion in 2018 and 2019, was responsible for ensuring that the Taycan could maintain continuous drifting throughout the record attempt.

The Porsche Taycan already holds records in several fields. These include a durability test covering a total of 3,425 km over 24 hours at the Nard? high-speed track in Italy, a lap time record of 7 minutes 42 seconds on the N?rburgring Nordschleife track, and a record of 26 consecutive accelerations from a standstill to 200 km/h at the Lahr airfield. The Taycan, Porsche's first pure electric sports car, continues its impressive record-breaking journey.
