LIG Nex1 Advances Development of 40kg-Class Cargo Transport Drone

[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] LIG Nex1 announced on the 23rd that it has secured a development project for a '40kg-class transport multicopter-type drone system.' This project is being carried out as a military-civil technology cooperation project by the Defense Science Research Institute's Military-Civil Cooperation Promotion Agency, with LIG Nex1 as the lead organization.

The newly developed transport drone is a high-performance multicopter equipped with a hybrid engine, capable of carrying approximately 40kg and flying for more than 60 minutes. Currently, domestic drone-based cargo transport can deliver items weighing about 20 to 30kg.

The new transport drone can be utilized for emergency resupply of essential goods to isolated units in disaster areas, remote locations where vehicle operation is restricted, or during emergencies.

LIG Nex1 expects the market to expand not only in the defense sector but also into the future urban air mobility field.

LIG Nex1 will be responsible for the system integration of the unmanned aerial vehicle system by fully utilizing the technology and know-how accumulated through its avionics, surveillance reconnaissance, and small drone businesses. The aircraft and design will be handled by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute.

A LIG Nex1 official stated, "The development of the new transport drone is expected to significantly contribute to the advancement of domestic technology in the unmanned aerial vehicle and drone sectors."
