Shinhan Card Opens First 'Digital Library'

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] The Shinhan Card Areumin Library, now in its 11th year, is opening its first digital library.

On the 23rd, Shinhan Card announced that, together with Seoul City and LG Uplus, it has opened the 505th library and the first digital library, the 'Shinhan Card Areumin Library,' at Seoul Innovation Park, a complex cultural space located in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul.

The Shinhan Card Areumin Digital Library, established on the second floor of the Participation Building at Seoul Innovation Park, has been remodeled into an eco-friendly learning space where citizens of various age groups can enjoy both paper books and e-books. Additionally, a separate digital space for children has been created, allowing them to freely experience various digital educational content through tablet PCs.

In particular, the digital educational content provided in this digital library is supported by LG Uplus's U+ Elementary Country and U+ Kids Country, enabling visiting infants and children to engage in new communication and experiences through digital means.

The opening ceremony was held at Seoul Innovation Park with the attendance of officials including Jeong Seon-ae, Director of Innovation Planning at Seoul City; Jeong Young-hoon, Head of Financial Sales at LG Uplus; Hwang In-seon, Director of Seoul Innovation Park; Park Du-jun, Executive Director of the Children and Future Foundation; and Moon Dong-kwon, Head of Management Planning Group at Shinhan Card.

Shinhan Card started the Areumin Library project in 2010 with the hope that children and adolescents from vulnerable groups would grow up to be the future leaders of Korea. So far, a total of 504 libraries have been opened. Linked with global projects, six Areumin Libraries have also been established overseas in countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Kazakhstan.

A Shinhan Card official stated, "Going forward, we will continue to develop the Areumin Library as an educational platform to cultivate citizens' knowledge and culture in connection with Shinhan Financial Group's ESG strategy, and strive to transform it into a new communication space suitable for the digital era."
