[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) opened the Haneulchae Cinema at Jangwi Kolon Haneulchae Apartment, selected as the ‘2020 Open Apartment Pilot Project,’ on the 12th.

At Jangwi Kolon Haneulchae, selected for the Open Apartment Pilot Project, a cinema with 24 seats was created by utilizing the cultural center space, an idle space within the complex. It plans to open and operate the cinema not only for residents of the complex but also for neighbors nearby.

The Open Apartment contest project consists of three projects and was first implemented this year in Seongbuk-gu as a pilot project.

Through support from the district office, idle spaces within the complex are opened to the public, and community activity programs are operated using the created spaces.

Additionally, an academy must be established to foster the necessity of community activities and to train leaders.

At the opening ceremony, about 30 residents including Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro and Seongbuk-gu Council Chairman Kim Il-young attended, where there were congratulatory speeches, facility tours, and a trial movie screening.

Kim Dae-ho, the representative of the residents, said, “I am pleased that such a wonderful cinema was created within the complex through the contest project. We plan to screen various movies enjoyable for everyone from children to seniors and open and operate the cinema at least once a month not only for residents but also for neighbors nearby.”

Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “Congratulations on the opening of Haneulchae Cinema. I applaud the planning and opening of this groundbreaking project of a cinema within the apartment, leading an open culture in the apartment. I hope that neighboring complexes will also experience this community revitalization culture and that communication and exchange among neighbors will gradually expand.”

Meanwhile, at Jangwi Kolon Haneulchae on the same day, along with the cinema opening ceremony, excellent works from the no-smoking campaign contest conducted as part of Seongbuk-gu’s apartment community revitalization project were exhibited throughout the complex for residents to view.

This year, Seongbuk-gu selected 60 complexes for the apartment community revitalization project. Despite the difficulties caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, various non-face-to-face projects such as the ‘Stay-at-Home Challenge to Overcome COVID-19,’ ‘No-Smoking and Noise Between Floors Contest for Apartment Community Recovery,’ and ‘Veranda Concert’ have been promoted, continuing community projects to overcome the COVID-19 situation.
