[Asia Economy Reporter Nahana] The tourist attraction 'Arch Cliff' on Sumba Island, Indonesia, has collapsed due to massive waves and earthquakes, disappearing forever.
According to Kompas and others on the 21st (local time), the arch-shaped cliff 'Batu Bolong' on the western Bawana Beach of Sumba Island, Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, disappeared overnight on the 17th.
Sumba Island is located below Komodo National Park, east of Bali and Lombok Island.
Batu Bolong, which means 'rock with a hole' in Indonesian, is a place where tourists flock due to its beautiful scenery at sunrise and sunset. In particular, Korean travelers and photographers occasionally visited this cliff.
The Sumba Island tourism authorities stated, "The biggest cause of the rock breaking was the impact of huge waves hitting during high tide," and added, "Apart from the waves, frequent earthquake shocks also caused the collapse."
Repeated earthquakes have recently occurred on the west coast of Sumba Island. Starting with a magnitude 4.0 earthquake on August 2nd, several earthquakes occurred, and a magnitude 4.4 earthquake also occurred on the morning of the 18th of this month, the day after the cliff collapsed.
