On the 19th, a post stating that the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases exceeded 400 was uploaded on an internet community. Subsequently, as internet users shared the related post, the fake news has been spreading across various SNS platforms.
In response, health authorities and the police plan to actively counter the fake news.
The current status of COVID-19 confirmed cases is officially announced by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's Central Disease Control Headquarters at 9:30 a.m. based on data as of midnight of the same day.
A representative from the Cyber Safety Bureau of the National Police Agency stated, "Amid the recent increase in COVID-19 confirmed cases, social anxiety is growing due to fake news," adding, "We plan to strictly respond to and investigate acts of spreading false information that is not based on facts."
