The Korean Publishers Association's Contest for 'The Most Beautiful Book in Korea'

[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The Korea Publishing Culture Association is holding a contest for the 'Most Beautiful Book in Korea.'

This contest was organized with the purpose of promoting the development of Korean book design and introducing diverse and creative Korean book designs to the world, in cooperation with the German Stiftung Buchkunst (Book Art Foundation). Books selected in this contest will be automatically entered into the '2021 Most Beautiful Books in the World' competition held in Germany.

Started in 1963, the international book design competition 'Most Beautiful Books in the World' is jointly operated by the German Stiftung Buchkunst and the Leipzig Book Fair, with participation from about 30 affiliated countries. The 'Most Beautiful Books in the World' selects a final 14 books through an international design jury from approximately 600 books chosen in each affiliated country's contest.

Korea has not participated in the contest until now but plans to officially submit books starting next year. Submitted books will be judged in Leipzig in March next year, and the awards ceremony will be held at the Leipzig Book Fair in May.

The grand prize books for the 'Most Beautiful Book in Korea' contest are ISBN-registered books published domestically between 2019 and 2020, and can be submitted with the consent of the publisher and book designer. After a professional jury review, a total of 10 books will be selected, with one work chosen as the grand prize winner. The selected books will be exhibited at the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Seoul International Book Fair next year.

The contest period is until December 11, and publishers can download the application form from the Korea Publishing Culture Association website to apply. The 'Most Beautiful Book in Korea' contest is hosted by the Korea Publishing Culture Association, organized by the Seoul International Book Fair, and cooperated by the Korean Typography Society.
