Busan Tourism Organization Wins Grand Prize at 'Busan Tourism Travelthon Competition'
Dongseo University Selected as 'Excellent University' in Group Category, Achieving Two Crowns

Dongseo University Tourism Management Major, "We Are the Best at Inventing Tourism Business" The 'See-Through Team,' formed by fourth-year students majoring in Tourism at the Department of Tourism, Dongseo University, won the grand prize at this year's Busan Tourism Travelthon Competition.


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The See-Through team (Kim Do-hee, Kim So-young, Son Ye-jin, Lee So-won, Lee So-jung), composed of fourth-year students majoring in Tourism Management at Dongseo University’s Department of Tourism, won the grand prize at the '2020 Busan Tourism Travelthon Competition' hosted by Busan Tourism Organization (President Jeong Hee-jun). The grand prize award money is 1 million KRW.


The Busan Tourism Travelthon Competition is being held for the second time following last year. A total of 140 students from 12 universities in the Busan area participated.


After the first budget screening, 10 teams advanced to the finals, and on the 4th, the final presentation competition was held, where Dongseo University’s See-Through team was selected as the first place winner.


The See-Through team’s “New On-site Untact” concept, which won the grand prize, is a new business model designed for the revival of the tourism industry, which has been stagnated due to COVID-19.


The project is a convergence model that combines drive-in theaters, McDonald’s drive-thru, CGV’s flow management, food truck services, and ICT to simultaneously satisfy untact (contactless) and on-site experience.


An official involved in the judging explained that they gave high scores to the students’ systematic approach and passion, including detailed business plans and feasibility analysis targeting Songdo Ocean Park.


For this Travelthon, 22 students from the Department of Tourism took a three-month Tourism Startup School course starting in May. All completed the course with a diligent and proactive attitude, receiving favorable evaluations from the Busan Tourism Organization. Dongseo University was also selected as an excellent university in the group category of the Travelthon, achieving the honor of winning two awards.


In the Tourism Management major at Dongseo University, to respond early to changes brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, tourism and ICT courses have been offered for two years, designing and operating new business models such as smart tourism, travel platforms, and OTA.


Dongseo University stated, “We applied new business models and demonstrated our skills at the Travelthon competition, achieving good results.”
