[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, regarding his mention of the 'Opposition New Party Formation Theory,' calling him a "tactless Ahn Cheol-soo challenging 'ahem politics.'"
On the 8th, Jeong shared a screenshot of a related article on his Facebook and said, "Ahn Cheol-soo’s new party formation theory is a mere snort to Kim Jong-in."
Jeong stated, "The People Power Party’s defeat in the general election was expected, and Kim Jong-in’s move to become the election committee chairman was a strategic foothold anticipating that if Hwang Kyo-ahn resigned taking responsibility for the defeat, he himself would be appointed as the emergency committee chairman. This is political common sense that even a moderate political commentator could foresee," adding, "The emergency committee chairman seizes the party’s emergency authority and initially gains the nomination rights for the Seoul and Busan mayoral elections. The regional party committee chairpersons can be weeded out through party audits, and he can plant his own people. Watching the situation, he can stall and then claim 'there are no capable people within the party,' even dreaming of a presidential bid."
He continued, "Kim Jong-in would think inwardly, 'How dare they covet the party leadership I earned? Such audacity. It’s outrageous. They have only 3 seats, yet they’re eyeing 103 seats,'" and said, "Veteran politicians like Kim Jong-in enjoy private desires and 'ahem politics' more than public interest. They intensely dislike anyone challenging their authority or sharing power. They absolutely detest anything that gets in their way."
Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, attended and gave a lecture at the People’s Future Forum seminar titled "Post-Corona Era, South Korea’s Innovation Tasks and Future Vision" held on the morning of the 6th at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul. He added, "From Kim Jong-in’s perspective, Ahn Cheol-soo looks like a 'political elementary schooler' who lacks the caliber, influence, approval ratings, and political sense," and said, "Supporting Ahn Cheol-soo in the last presidential election was nothing more than lip service for someone who was never going to succeed."
Jeong said, "In a situation where the microphone is monopolized, dispersing the microphone to Ahn Cheol-soo is a direct challenge to the arrogant leadership," and claimed, "To Kim Jong-in, who practices 'ahem politics,' Ahn Cheol-soo’s proposals about party mergers, alliances, or new party formations are not proposals but challenges. They are utterly pointless and ridiculous."
He added, "The true feelings of Mr. Chu Ho-seon of 'This Party or That Party' might be, 'Maybe if they come crawling on their knees, then perhaps,'" and said, "(Ahn Cheol-soo) is so tactless, why is he like this?"
Earlier, Ahn Cheol-soo reportedly proposed 'new party formation' as a way to innovate the opposition.
On the 6th, after a lecture at the People’s Future Forum, a research group led by Kwon Eun-hee of the People’s Party and Hwang Bo-seung-hee of the People Power Party, Ahn reportedly said in a private meeting, "We need to broaden the support base and reduce the unfavorable views toward the opposition. One way to do this is through a new platform, in fact, a new party."
