[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, is reported to have expressed his condolences to Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong.


According to Facebook on the 1st, CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent a condolence email to Vice Chairman Lee on the 26th, during the four-day funeral of Chairman Lee Kun-hee, after hearing the news of his passing.


The condolence email reportedly included a tribute to Chairman Lee's leadership, which greatly contributed to the advancement of the global tech industry. Zuckerberg expressed his sorrow over the passing and stated that he would gladly offer help to Vice Chairman Lee if needed.


Along with the condolence email, Zuckerberg also sent a floral wreath to the funeral at Samsung Seoul Hospital in Irwon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.


Zuckerberg and Vice Chairman Lee are alumni of Harvard University in the United States. Zuckerberg entered Harvard University in 2002 but dropped out in May 2005 to found Facebook, the world's largest social media service. Vice Chairman Lee completed his doctoral coursework in business administration at Harvard Business School in 2000.


The two are known to have built a relationship by meeting annually at the unofficial social event "Sun Valley Conference" held at the Sun Valley Resort in Idaho, USA.


In June 2013, CEO Zuckerberg also met with Vice Chairman Lee for about 10 hours at Samsung Electronics' Seocho building. At that time, Zuckerberg actively showed interest while holding Samsung Electronics' smartphone Galaxy S4. Vice Chairman Lee told reporters about the meeting, saying, "I was scolded by CEO Zuckerberg for not using Facebook."
