[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Damwon Gaming defeated China's Suning to claim their first championship at the '2020 League of Legends (LoL) World Championship (Worlds)'.
Damwon Gaming won the Worlds final held on the 31st of last month in Shanghai, China, beating Suning with a set score of 3-1 to reach the top for the first time since their founding.
This is the sixth time a domestic LoL first division league team has won the Worlds, where teams from around the world compete, and the first time in three years since Samsung Galaxy (now Gen.G Esports) in 2017 that a domestic team has reclaimed the title.
Damwon Gaming is a professional gaming team founded in 2017. Previously, they won the LoL Challengers Korea (CK), LoL Champions Korea (LCK), and now the Worlds. The finals MVP was 'Canyon' Kim Geon-bu.
Coach Lee Jae-min said, "Compared to last year, the players' overall understanding of the game has improved and their physical skills have gotten better," adding, "Since we won 3-1, I think we showed a good performance."
