[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] Kim Ki-hyun, a four-term member of the People Power Party, demanded the reinstatement of defectors on the 1st, saying, "Let's unite for an anti-Moon Jae-in domino effect."
On the same day, Kim stated on his Facebook, "Now is the time to make a decision and take action."
He said, "The voice that the current ruling power, which has disrupted state affairs, must be judged for its tyranny and the country must be set right is spreading like a blazing fire across the plain of public sentiment, but I cannot help but painfully accept the cold assessment that the opposition has yet to build a camp capable of becoming an alternative force."
Kim emphasized, "There are only five months left until the Seoul and Busan mayoral by-elections," adding, "We must reinforce the opposition camp before it is too late. This is not a matter of choice but a historical mission."
He said, "Even if there are some differences in lines and policies, it is time for our People Power Party, the eldest brother of the freedom, fairness, and peace camp, to demonstrate more proactiveness and flexibility and set up a big tent for opposition unity," adding, "Many citizens are shouting 'Exclude the Democratic Party,' but the fact that they are hesitant to join our party is evidence of the urgent public demand for a change in the election structure."
Kim also argued at the recent emergency committee and senior lawmakers joint meeting, "We must promptly take measures to reinstate those who inevitably left the party."
