Geumcheon-gu Wins Youth-Friendly Governance Award for Two Consecutive Years

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) received the ‘Policy Award’ at the 4th Korea Youth Day Festival ‘Youth-Friendly Legislative Awards Ceremony’ held on October 31 at the Peace Plaza in Seoul Olympic Park.

With this, the district has been honored for two consecutive years, following last year’s ‘Grand Prize,’ at the Youth-Friendly Legislative Awards Ceremony, which has been held for the third time this year.

The ‘Youth-Friendly Legislative Award’ is given to local governments and politicians who have worked hard for youth. It recognizes members of the National Assembly, metropolitan and basic local governments, and city/provincial councilors who have made outstanding achievements in policies, legislation, and communication for youth, striving to improve their lives.

The evaluation was conducted by a judging committee composed of experts and youth, based on the Youth-Friendly Index.

Since establishing the Youth Companion Team in 2017, the district has enacted the Youth Basic Ordinance, formed the Youth Policy Committee and Youth Network to build youth policy governance, and supports youth career planning and social participation through the operation of the youth activity space ‘Cheongchun Building.’

Additionally, to stabilize housing for youth with weak residential and self-reliance foundations, youth housing such as G-Valley House and Gasan-dong social mix-type public rental housing are being supplied.

Furthermore, the district is promoting the ‘Geumcheon Youth Dream Center’ to support youth entrepreneurship challenges and career planning, and the ‘Youth Future Fund’ to help form a foundation for independence by fostering youth capacity development and startup growth.

Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I am very pleased that Geumcheon-gu has firmly established itself as a youth-friendly city by winning the Youth-Friendly Legislative Award again this year following last year. We will continue to spare no support for the youth of Geumcheon who dream and challenge themselves, worthy of an institution that has won for two consecutive years.”
